Welcome to the Calm Lion Recovery Coach Training

Welcome to the Calm Lion Recovery and Wellness Coach Training.

This recovery coach training course has been developed in collaboration with Calm Lion as part of U-ACT’s international mandate to TRAIN! EMPOWER! TREAT! individuals, families, groups, organisations and communities that are challenged with substance use and addictive behaviour disorders. This course forms the cornerstone of the training work that U-ACT does. It is designed to introduce a set of skills and tools to people interested in working in this field, whether it is at a grassroots’ level focused on community development, or as a private coach. The models are practical and usable for coaches and clients to move forward through their recovery, which is ultimately a growth and transformation process.

This course is currently being offered in Johannesburg and Cape Town at a national level, with bespoke training taking place throughout the country. The team has also delivered the training in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and the UK. We have created an online offering which has been developed in collaboration with Calm Lion, Australia.

Workplace is an important part of the training platform and we will share information and material in your training group. Workplace by Facebook operates very much like a collection of groups, but the system is closed and private. It’s a great place to connect and ask questions, share ideas, organise coaching sessions and stay in touch with the international members of U-ACT.

The facilitators for your training will be part of the U-ACT international facilitation team, all of whom have extensive experience with the training content and working as a recovery coach. They all bring a unique flavour to the training and will be involved in your assessment and certification process wherever possible. David Collins, Attie van Buuren and Leigh-Anne Brierley are all IMCSA Master Coaches. Dr. Buddhi Lokuge is an addiction medicine specialist doctor, Clinical and harm reduction Director for UACT and, an ICR and UACT accredited Recovery Coach.

We are excited to have you on the training and to be able to share this work with you. Not only will you find it extremely useful on a professional level but will also see the impact it has by challenging you in your personal life. Remember that this is a training event, and that it is important that you are mindful of what you bring into the space. We are here to coach and support you through the entire process.

Please feel free to ask any questions that you may have during the training as this is a client-centred experience, just like any coaching session. There are NO right and wrong answers, and we welcome your feedback. We do send out more formal feedback at certain points, please assist us in continuing to offer the best training that we can by bringing your voice to the conversation.

Yours in Recovery,

David, Buddhi and the Calm Lion Team
